Welcome to Mr. Speiller's 2nd Grade class!
Quick Notes and Reminders:
- The school book fair is here.
- Our bonsai trees have not sprouted. We need to replant the seeds in potting soil. Potting soil is less dense; thus, allowing the water to reach the seeds. We used a thick organic soil that is not allowing the water to absorb into the center of the pots.
- Our milkweed butterfly plant did not survive the mystery bug. If you know what it is, send an email. Also if you would like to donate a milkweed plant with butterfly eggs, send me an email.
- Our basil plants are growing slowly and need to be replanted. This is a great way to earn some volunteer hours.
- Please send your 2nd grader in with an empty 32oz plastic chobani Greek yogurt container for our basil plants. The more the merrier
- If you are looking for a good learning app for your 2nd grader, try duolingo or wordscapes.
- Remember to do your iReady and extra math computer time every week.
- If you are unsure how to best utilize the iReady learning program or extra math webpage please email me to schedule a conference.
- iReady usage: please complete 45 minutes of reading lessons and 45 minutes of math lessons per week. Tuesday is our computer lab time and we are able to complete about half of this goal. ( If you are on a level aa, k, or a, you need to do extra lessons above the 45 weekly minutes.
- If your 2nd grader achieved iReady Close Reading lessons please follow these directions. The Close Reading lessons take about one hour to complete. Please find time to complete one close reading lesson per week.
- Please make sure that these four items are coming home from school and returning to school everyday.
- Reflection Notebook at home goals: reread writing pieces, find misspelled words, add end marks, and rewrite to practice handwriting if needed ( New Goal: Add some more details).
- Take Home Folder: view student work or send important papers in.
- Agenda at home goals: review tricky word list, practice reading the interesting information, and make sure to sign it every day.
- Reading Club Book Bag at home goals: make sure that you are reading at least a book a night and spending time reflecting on the interesting parts.
